Mentre faceva troppo freddo per noi per goderci la spiaggia, abbiamo trascorso la maggior parte del nostro tempo mangiando e bevendo. Nessun viaggio a Santa Barbara sarebbe completo senza una visita all'iconico Stearns Wharf, il più antico molo in legno funzionante della California. Ospita una varietà di ristoranti e negozi, oltre ad alcune viste mozzafiato sull'oceano e sulle montagne.
Abbiamo deciso di iniziare il nostro fine settimana pieno di alcolici a Santa Barbara qui con un'azienda vinicola locale.

Situato sullo Stearns Wharf,Vini di mare profondooffre una deliziosa degustazione di vini abbinata a sensazionali viste sull'oceano e sulle montagne.
Abbiamo visitato alla fine di febbraio quando una rara tempesta di neve è scesa sulla California meridionale, regalandoci uno spettacolo raro: spiagge fiancheggiate da palme alla base di montagne innevate. La sala degustazione al piano superiore ha posti a sedere sia all'interno che all'esterno con decorazioni nautiche che si abbinano perfettamente alla posizione.
Il vino stesso proviene dalla contea di Santa Barbara con la maggior parte dei vigneti entro 20 miglia dalla costa del Pacifico, il che conferisce al vino un'influenza oceanica unica. I vini Deep Sea e Conway sono due linee diverse ma sono entrambi prodotti a Santa Barbara, in California, dai fratelli Tom, John e Gillian Conway.
I vini Deep Sea sono leggeri, ben equilibrati e si possono trovare in molti dei migliori ristoranti di Santa Barbara. I vini Conway sono vini a produzione limitata realizzati in piccoli lotti, con molte offerte caratterizzate da miscele che hanno una grande profondità di carattere, molteplici strati di sapori e aromi e spesso si abbinano bene al cibo.

Nel 2007, Kirk Wiles ha fondato la Paradise Springs Winery a Clifton, Virginia, che si trova alla periferia di Washington D.C. Nel 2013, hanno registrato una crescita massiccia, producendo oltre 12.000 casse all'anno, che hanno superato la quantità di frutta di qualità disponibile in Virginia.
Nel 2014, durante un viaggio nella regione vinicola di Santa Barbara in California, Kirk e i suoi amici si sono innamorati dei Pinot Noir della regione. Fu durante questo viaggio che Kirk ebbe l'idea di avviare una seconda azienda vinicola sulla costa occidentale per espandere il marchio senza compromettere gli elevati standard di qualità che si era prefissato.

Avevamo programmato di fare un salto solo per un volo, ma il personale è stato simpatico e così divertente che siamo finiti lì per diverse ore, assaggiando molti vini e ordinando anche un piatto di formaggi. Ci è capitato di visitare un giorno in cui c'era anche un Oyster bar pop-up. Se controlli i loro eventi, vedrai che frequentano questa cantina e ti consigliamo vivamente di provarli. Le ostriche e Umi erano fenomenali!

Azienda vinicola Margerumè stata fondata nel 2001 da Doug Margerum, rinomato ristoratore e sommelier. La passione di Doug per il vino lo ha portato a iniziare a produrre il proprio vino, e presto ha iniziato a produrre piccoli lotti di vini eccezionali che hanno rapidamente guadagnato un fedele seguito.
Oggi, la Margerum Wine Company è nota per i suoi eccezionali Pinot Noir, Syrah e Sauvignon Blanc, nonché per le sue miscele fantasiose e le versioni in edizione limitata, che provengono dai vigneti di tutta la costa centrale. Gli spiriti artigianali di Cutlerè una distilleria artigianale situata nella Funk Zone di Santa Barbara, CA. La distilleria produce una varietà di liquori, tra cui gin, vodka, whisky e brandy, tutti realizzati internamente con ingredienti di provenienza locale.
La prima cosa che ha attirato la nostra attenzione quando siamo entrati da Cutler's sono stati i bellissimi alambicchi di rame che erano in mostra. La sala degustazione è accogliente e intima, con un arredamento rustico e industriale che si aggiunge all'atmosfera generale.
Puoi provare un volo dei loro spiriti a un prezzo ragionevole o se non sei dell'umore giusto per i liquori semplici, hanno anche una varietà di cocktail artigianali.

Il loro menu si ispira ai sapori audaci della Spagna e del Mediterraneo, con particolare attenzione agli ingredienti freschi e alle spezie vivaci. Dal momento in cui abbiamo preso i nostri primi morsi, sapevamo di essere in un'avventura culinaria.
I prodotti, le carni e i frutti di mare di provenienza locale si fondono bene con il clima mediterraneo e il terroir della contea di Santa Barbara, che condivide somiglianze con la Spagna.
La lista dei vini del ristorante presenta principalmente vini spagnoli (alcuni vini locali disponibili) che completano bene il cibo. La lista dei cocktail di Loquita offre una gamma di vermouth spagnoli, cocktail artigianali e una selezione a rotazione della bevanda caratteristica della Spagna, il Gin Tonic.
In vero stile tapas, abbiamo ordinato di dividere alcuni piatti diversi. Il primo è stato il Carpaccio de Carne: manzo nutrito con erba, oliva manzanilla, semi di senape in salamoia, aceto di sherry 12 anni e olio d'oliva arbequina. Questo piatto si è letteralmente sciolto in bocca ed era così leggero ma esploso di sapore.
Volendo bilanciare la carne con i carboidrati, abbiamo ordinato le Patatas Bravas: patate yukon gold, salsa brava, emulsione piccante di pimentón, salsa aioli all'aglio arrosto e prezzemolo. Immagina spicchi di patate per la colazione, ma migliori al 1000%. Gli esterni erano croccanti e le patate erano perfettamente cotte all'interno.
Abbiamo concluso la nostra serata con il Pulpo: polpo spagnolo, manzanilla olivada, pippirana primaverile ed emulsione di peperone piquillo. In genere non siamo grandi fan del polpo servito in questo modo, ma entrambi abbiamo pulito il piatto. Era così buono.
Una cosa che ci mancava nell'ordinare era la paella. La paella è un classico piatto spagnolo che è notoriamente difficile da ottenere, ma Loquita è noto per il loro. Se lo ordini, dovrai procurarti alcuni piatti aggiuntivi poiché la preparazione richiede più di 40 minuti.

Chris ha sorseggiato il Cigar Box, un cocktail mezcal/cognac spiritoso che strizzava l'occhio a The Roosevelt Room (uno dei nostri cocktail bar preferiti in assoluto aAustin, Texas).
Sam ha scelto il Florida Man, un intruglio a base di bourbon con una miscela di agrumi perfettamente bilanciata con un finale leggermente aspro.
